Used Tire Management
Since 1997, Nova Scotia’s Solid Waste-Resource Management Regulations have required that distributers and retailers selling on-road passenger tires must have a stewardship agreement with a program administrator. RRFB Nova Scotia is appointed by the Minister of Environment as Administrator for the used tire program. Within their stewardship agreements, the RRFB requires that distributers and retailers selling on-road passenger tires must collect a one-time environmental fee for each tire sold within the province. These fees are then submitted to RRFB Nova Scotia to support the costs of collecting and processing used tires.
Tire type and Fee are as follows:

Tire Collection
As part of the used tire management program, tire retailers are required to accept up to four (4) regulated and unwanted tires from Nova Scotia residents. As the manager of the program, RRFB Nova Scotia arranges collection from these retailers and salvage yards throughout the province.
Schedule a Pickup: Retailers and Salvage Yards
Regularly scheduled pickups take place at all registered tire retailers and salvage yards. If your business requires a tire pick up, please contact RRFB Nova Scotia toll-free at 1-877-313-RRFB (7732).
Contact your local municipal unit for information on proper disposal of other tire types, such as ATV tires.
