To get the tire rolling...

RRFB Nova Scotia is responsible for the collection of used tires in the province. Regularly scheduled pick ups will take place at all registered tire retailers and salvage yards. If your business requires a tire pick up, please contact RRFB Nova Scotia toll-free at 1-877-313-RRFB (7732).

Pay on Purchase (POP)
Effective November 1, 2010, RRFB Nova Scotia will allow small retailers to pay the Environmental Fee on each tire it purchases, directly to its distributor by registering for Pay on Purchase (POP). This change will allow the small retailer to recover the fee from consumers as they purchase tires and eliminate the need to report and remit these fees to RRFB Nova Scotia on a monthly basis.

You may be eligible to become a POP retailer if you sell fewer than 1,000 tires per year and purchase tires exclusively from a tire distributor(s) registered with RRFB Nova Scotia. If you think you meet this criteria, and would like to register as a POP retailer and pay your tire distributor(s), please contact RRFB Nova Scotia toll free 1-877-313-RRFB (7732).

How will I know when to charge the tire fee?
On the first business day of each month, an updated list of all Tire Remitters will be published on the RRFB website.

If you consult the published list and determine your customer is currently registered as a Remitter, you are not obligated to charge this customer the tire fee. If your customer is not on the list, you are obligated to charge the tire fee at the time of sale.

When changes are made to the list (e.g., a Remitter changes to a POP, business closure), these changes will be summarized separately indicating the effective date of the change. We hope this summary will be a valuable tool, providing tire distributors a quick and efficient way to determine if any of the changes impact its operations.

We recommend that you review the published list and the changes each month to ensure you are charging the fees appropriately.
