2010
R & D Symposium - Problematic solid waste materials in Nova Scotia
In December 2010, RRFB Nova Scotia hosted a public forum to share and discuss a variety of research projects it had recently funded studying problematic waste in Nova Scotia. The following findings were presented at the event:
2009

February 20, 2009, RRFB Nova Scotia hosted a one-day information session for all parties potentially interested in submitting a proposal for Tire Derived Aggregate (TDA) processing. During the session, attendees were offered a better understanding of TDA and its uses from industry experts and RRFB Nova Scotia. TDA presentations included: Also during 2009, a study was conducted by Halifax C&D Recycling Ltd. on the feasibility of a mattress and box spring recycling program.
2008
Gauging Public Opinion on Waste Diversion and Reduction in Nova Scotia
This 2008 public opinion study included measurement of Nova Scotians’ awareness, attitudes and behaviour regarding “4Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recovery” and composting; assessed public awareness, knowledge and attitudes regarding RRFB Nova Scotia’s work; assessed Nova Scotians’ attitudes about industry’s and the public’s roles and responsibilities regarding environmental stewardship and environmental fees. A Study of Plastics in Nova Scotia
This study identifies and recommends measures for achieving enhanced plastics recovery and recycling in Nova Scotia. Specific objectives include:
  1. Development of an inventory of post-consumer plastic discarded in Nova Scotia.
  2. Review of collection systems for post-consumer plastics.
  3. Identification of markets for recovered post-consumer plastics.
  4. Identification of special issues and barriers relevant to post-consumer plastics recovery and recycling.
  5. Recommendation of actions to be taken to achieve enhanced plastics recovery and recycling in the province.

2007
Atlantic Cooperation in Solid Waste Diversion and Recycling
A study identifying opportunities to collaborate on, and harmonize policy and regulatory aspects of, existing waste diversion and recycling programs in Atlantic Canada. Taking a regional perspective, this study looks at how each province may strengthen their resource recovery effectiveness and maximize both economic and employment opportunities.
2006
Glass: A study to identify potential markets for post-consumer glass recycled in Nova Scotia and the requirements for supplying cullet and/or glass sand to feasible markets.
Electronics: A study to identify current fate and national infrastructure for reusing and recycling end-of-life (EOL) electronic products and compare state-of-the-art programs in other countries. The study details best management practice (BMP) for managing EOL electronic products in Canada and presents a feasibility analysis and recommendations for the application of the BMP in the Atlantic Canada provinces. 2004
