Research & Development Funding

To encourage the development of innovative products and/or process improvements, RRFB Nova Scotia offers financing for Research & Development projects related to solid waste diversion. The Program provides funding support to research projects that will investigate, design and develop:
  1. Materials or products that incorporate solid waste resources;
  2. Technologies that will facilitate the separation and recovery of solid waste resources; and
  3. Market opportunities for solid waste resources and/or recycled materials.
Typically, funding ranges from $5,000 to $75,000 per project. Please note the following:
  • Maximum funding contribution will generally be no more than 50 per cent of total project's cost, unless otherwise approved by RRFB Nova Scotia.
  • Project applications are ranked according to financial viability, market development potential and positive impact on the environment.
Priority is placed on projects that divert significant quantities and/or types of materials from the waste stream. For information on Problematic Waste Materials, please click here.
