Municipal HHW Funding


RRFB Nova Scotia is pleased to announce the allocation of funds in the amount of $112,000 for the 2010-11 fiscal year to assist in the disposal of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW). The funds will be distributed equally among the seven waste management regions within the Province of Nova Scotia.

To ensure that all municipalities within a region have an opportunity to participate in this program, we will hold all requests for funding until February 28, 2011. Funds will then be allocated within regions based on applications received as of the February 28, 2011 deadline.

Eligible materials and claimable amounts are listed below. All claims must be accompanied by copies of paid invoices and copies of the corresponding cancelled cheques.
  • Oxidizers - to a maximum of $185 per lab pack
  • Corrosives - to a maximum of $145 per lab pack
  • Flammables - to a maximum of $130 per lab pack
  • Pesticides - to a maximum of $225 per lab pack
  • Waste Oil - to a maximum of $85 per lab pack
  • Aerosols - to a maximum of $150 per lab pack
  • Propane - to a maximum of $325 per lab pack/ $4.00 per tank
  • Glycol - to a maximum of $85 per lab pack
  • Batteries - to a maximum of $100 per lab pack

Event set-up fees may be reimbursed on a 50/50 cost basis up to a maximum of $1,000 per region.

Residential paints ineligible for collection through the ENVIRO-DEPOT™ system may be included in the flammable category.

RRFB Nova Scotia must be recognized in all written or verbal communication related to this program, as approved by the Manager, Education (Alanna McPhee). Print advertisements (e.g., newspaper advertisements, press releases, brochures) must include RRFB Nova Scotia's logo, as specified by RRFB Nova Scotia. Broadcast advertisements (e.g., TV, radio) must mention RRFB Nova Scotia's sponsorship. Please allow a minimum of five (5) working days for the Manager, Education to review your submission. Newspaper, radio and cable advertising may be reimbursed on a 50/50 cost basis subject to approval. Failure to obtain written approval from RRFB Nova Scotia may result in non-payment of program funding.
