Pictou County's "Go Clean - Get Green" initiative has been a success for the last several years. On Earth Day 2006, residents, businesses and schools agreed to clean up litter and debris within a 100-foot radius of their buildings. A total of 1,400 volunteers took up the challenge and when the numbers were tallied, almost 14 tonnes of litter and garbage had been cleaned up!
Campaign chair Jim Shaw credits "broad-spectrum" community support for the great success of this program, now in its 4th year. He accepted the Mobius Award on behalf of Pictou County's "Go Clean - Get Green" Committee.
