Wal-Mart Canada Ltd. operates twelve tire retail outlets in Nova Scotia and enthusiastically cooperates with the Nova Scotia Used Tire Management Program. Wal-Mart Canada has developed an efficient, well-organized accounting and reporting system to manage environmental fees for tires and readily complies with their tire stewardship agreement. However, Wal-Mart’s commitment to the environment goes far beyond their tire retailing: they are also recognized for excellence in customer service. Wal-Mart Canada is also working towards restoring natural habitats and “greening” areas in Nova Scotia and other provinces; supporting clean, renewable power; and taking action to reduce its carbon footprint. The company’s “Green Grants” initiative provides up to $10,000 to local groups for naturalization projects.
In addition to its ongoing dedication to environmental sustainability, Wal-Mart Canada Ltd. continuously strives to ensure that it is always informed concerning regulatory issues pertaining to RRFB Nova Scotia’s programs. For all of these efforts, Wal-Mart Canada Ltd. was awarded the 2006 Mobius Environmental Award for Tire Retailer of the Year.
