Volunteer of the Year - Digby Volunteer Fire Department

Digby Volunteer Fire Department is a 30-member fire brigade that serves the
Digby area. Not only does the Fire Department protect the area residents from harm,
but also the members are active in the community. Each Labour Day weekend the Fire
Department holds a community auction and fair to raise funds for the Fire Department. Volunteers
collect used household goods throughout the year for the auction that attracts up to 1,500 people. The Fire Department’s giant auction manages to collect and reuse approximately 27,000 tonnes of material that would otherwise end up in the landfill.

Mark Hyson. President of the Digby Volunteer Fire Department, accepted the RRFB Nova Scotia Mobius Environmental Award for Volunteer of the Year on behalf of the fire department.
