School of the Year -
Dwight Ross Elementary School
Dwight Ross Elementary School is located in Greenwood. Many of the students are children of military families stationed at CFB 14 Wing Greenwood.
The school has been a leader in environmental education and waste-resource management. It is part of the SEEDS Foundation Green School Program and has been reducing waste, recycling and composting for many years. The school has both backyard and green cart composters and a garden, which is fertilized with compost from the school. Students are active environmentalists even outside the school and participate in annual community and beach clean-ups. The school practices the motto "thinking globally and acting locally" through a community development project to raise funds for a well in a village in India.
Karl West, Principal of Dwight Ross Elementary School, Linda Wynott a teacher at the school and students, Kristin Clarke and Ryan Anderson accepted the RRFB Nova Scotia Mobius Environmental Award for School of the Year on behalf of the school.
