Waste Management Education - Eco-Efficiency Centre

The Eco-Efficiency Centre is a not-for-profit educational and environmental
management organization that has operated out of the Burnside Industrial Park
since 1998. Eco-Efficiency assists small and medium sized businesses across Nova Scotia
helping them to become more energy efficient and environmentally responsible. Through better environmental management practices, businesses can reduce waste, conserve resources and prevent pollution. The Centre developed one of the first Eco-Business programs in Canada to assist businesses. Since then, the Centre has become a model for developing other Eco-Efficiency Centres in other parts of the world. Recently the Centre teamed up with an industrial park in Indonesia to train one of their employees in industrial ecology and eco-efficiency. Here at home, the Eco-Efficiency Centre works with RRFB Nova Scotia to maintain the Nova Scotia Materials Exchange, an on-line database listing of surplus materials for sale or trade. Not only does the Eco-Efficiency Centre educate businesses, but the Centre provides valuable hands-on experience and education for the business leaders of tomorrow, coop students studying at in the engineering and business programs at Dalhousie University.

Peggy Crawford, Manager of the Centre, accepted the RRFB Nova Scotia Mobius Environmental Award for Waste Management Education on behalf of the Eco-Efficiency Centre.
