Crossley Carpet Mills Limited

This year we have two Business of the Year winners. The judges felt that both
winners excelled in waste reduction but on a different scale and were equally deserving
of the award.

Crossley Carpet Mills located in Truro, is part of the Tandus Group of flooringcompanies. The company manufactures residential and commercial carpet. Crossley Carpet Mills has a long tradition with its roots going back to 19th century England. The plant in Truro was built in 1963 and employs a workforce of up to 300 people.

Crossley Carpet Mills has a commitment to the environment. They were the first carpet mill in Canada to be registered ISO 9002 standard in 1996. The company has continued to improve their rating and now is certified in both ISO 9001 and ISO 14,001. The 14,000 series of certification is an environmental management system that includes a third party audit of the company’s environmental performance. Crossley is committed to environmental management and has made significant strides in conserving energy and natural resources and reducing waste. For example Crossley has reduced their waste material sent to disposal by nearly 50% in the last eight years. Whatever can be recycled is recycled. Crossley is also incorporating recycled yarn into some of its products.
