Lucie Gaudet lives in the village of Saint Bernard in Digby County. For over 40 years Lucie has lived the motto of “reduce, reuse, recycle”. Through her community network, which extends from Annapolis Royal to Digby Neck, Lucie accepts donations of used clothing and household goods, which she then redistributes to those in need. Clothes that are not suitable for reuse are recycled into dolls’ clothes and crafts. Toys are donated to Christmas Daddies and some of the best donations are sold at auction with the funds then donated to charity.
Lucie Gaudet is an inspiration in today’s throwaway society showing us all how to make the best use of our available resources and to follow the motto “waste-not, want-not”.
Rene Belliveau, Waste Reduction Educator for Waste Check and long-time family friend of the Gaudet family accepted the RRFB Nova Scotia Mobius Award for Volunteer of the Year on behalf of Lucie Gaudet.
