ENVIRO-DEPOTTM OF THE YEAR

WINNER! Strait Bottle Exchange, Port Hawkesbury

Minister of Environment and Labour Mark Parent (left) and Rick Ramsay, Chair of RRFB Nova Scotia (right) present Kara MacEachern, waste reduction coordinator for Cape Breton, with a Mobius Award for Enviro-Depot of the Year on behalf of Wayne DeWolfe, operator of the Strait Bottle Exchange, at the 9th Annual Mobius Environmental Awards held in Dartmouth on April 25, 2007.

The ideal Enviro-Depot should be - not only efficient and well-organized - but friendly and welcoming. The kind of place you not only do something, you learn something. That kind of place is the Strait Bottle Exchange in Port Hawkesbury, run by Wayne DeWolfe.

Wayne and his team do a great job, keep a neat shop, and they're always ready with information. Newcomers are usually invited for a tour through the operation, so they can see, first hand, the kind of work that goes on. People are good about sorting and recycling in Richmond County. No wonder: they have the "Garbage Police!", who are quick to sticker any bag containing improperly sorted waste.

For these reasons, and many more, it's not surprising Richmond County is the home of this year's 2007 Mobius Award Winner for ENVIRO-DEPOTTM of the Year, The Strait Bottle Exchange.
