Household Hazardous Waste

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)
HHW is waste material generated in our homes that poses a risk to health, safety, or the environment if not properly disposed of.

HHW drop-off locations
Your local municipal solid waste organizations have established HHW drop-off locations throughout the province. These locations provide Nova Scotians with safe disposal facilities for hazardous products including:
  • flammable or combustible products such as paint and solvents;
  • reactive products such as pool chemicals;
  • corrosive products such as cleaners;
  • toxic products such as pesticides.

Find the nearest HHW location at reduceyourwaste.ca under the heading 'Where Can You Bring HHW in Your Region?'.

Other Hazardous Material Programs:

Used oil
Used oil is accepted at most oil retailing outlets or at an alternative location within 5 km of the retailer.

Leftover paint
Regulated paint is accepted at your nearest ENVIRO-DEPOT™. Visit reduceyourwaste.ca or contact RRFB Nova Scotia at 1-877-313-RRFB (7732) for more information.

Please note that unregulated paint, not accepted at the ENVIRO-DEPOT™, can be dropped off at the nearest municipal HHW locations.
