Student Research Grants


RRFB Nova Scotia provides Student Research Grants for research related to solid waste diversion. Leveraging the knowledge and capacity of our universities, the program is intended to support student research projects that will provide a commercial benefit to businesses and municipalities and/or result in the increase of diversion of materials from disposal. The program provides grants to Honours Undergraduate students and Graduate thesis research that will investigate, design and develop:
  1. Materials or products that incorporate solid waste resources (See Appendix A of the SRG Guidelines below);
  2. Technologies that will facilitate the separation and recovery of solid waste resources; and,
  3. Enhanced market opportunities for solid waste resources and/or recycled materials.
Grant Amounts Available:
  • Honours Undergraduate Students can access up to $10,000.
  • Graduate Students can access up to $17,000.
Deadlines:
  • Subject to available funding, applications will be received May 31 and November 30.

Priority is placed on projects that divert significant quantities and/or types of materials from the Nova Scotia waste stream. For information on Problematic Waste Materials, please click here.
